Safari West Adventure!

As a Father's Day surprise, we went to Safari West in Santa Rosa....it was awesome!  It's a 400 acre property where you take a safari jeep all over and are INSIDE the animal enclosures vs. outside, like at the zoo.  Also, the "enclosures" are acres upon acres each, so it's a really great environment for the animals.  We stayed in their tent cabins overnight.....Safari West refers to it as "glamping" and I agree.  Finished off our stay with a morning "behind the scenes" tour where we fed the animals.  So fun!

 Glamping and smores....I'm in.

Who knew that a flashlight (when it's not even dark) would provide so much entertainment!

Card games in our tent cabin!

Yup, that's a giraffe hanging out just feet from our jeep!
Ostrich egg from one of the very friendly birds!

Enjoying the bumpy (and fun) ride from the top of the safari jeep!

Jake thinking this set of antlers is pretty fierce.

Arms up like a roller coaster on the top of the jeep!

 7000 pound rhino

Feeding the giraffes....their tongues can be up to 18 inches long.  Crazy.
I preferred to be snapping photos vs. getting slimed, but I did feed them too.

Feeding porcupines......they are funny creatures.  BIG rodents.

Spoon billed cranes....their bills were really cool.

Warthogs are weird.  But fun to feed, apparently.
